Welcome back! Last night we hauled our way over to Arnold dining hall and began to brainstorm and come up with diagrams and figures for our project. After copious amounts of coffee and setup, we were all set to discuss.

Working Hard in Arnold |
Johnny came in with various sketches and we modified them in detail. These plans included an MDF base, with cardboard wheels, a dowel based axle, and a 3d printed catapult. We agreed and decided to add weight to the base of the cart and remove it from the top of the cart, so it wouldn't topple over upon launch. Additionally, we added notches for our tension launchers (aka rubber bands) so that they would hold in place, and we discussed creating a stopper for the launch device. The next day we arrived in the innovation Gym to put our sketches into action.

Working even harder in the Gym |

While we drew even more sketches out, we also began to gather supplies, discussing how exactly we would wind up our cart and attach parts to one another. We were now able to get a visual on the materials we would be using and the practicality of our ideas, which in this situation meant we had to go back to the drawing board a few times. However, there were occasions where we improved, and made a more efficient piece taking into account all the moving parts. I (Sarah) began work on creating a catapult, which would be our 3D printed piece. I began with using Blender, and while I am well versed with it, I realized it would be too technical and wanted to get a more firm and solid piece. Scott began to use Shape Works simultaneously, which proved to be the more manageable software for printing and designing in this situation. We came to add hooks to our catapult so that it would hold firm and not slip and cause error. Darriana began working on designing the frame for the cart that she would later laser print on MDF board. Lexi gathered supplies and began working with it to see how we could utilize pieces and worked on our axl and crank system. While we still need to assemble and test, we have begun a steady and solid plan. More to come soon!
